Inlays and Onlays are very popular forms of dental treatment often offered in a Porcelain material, however many also choose to use Gold as their material of choice. Inlays are in a sense a type of filling, however, they differ in that they are more “custom” to your individual tooth.

Whereas a filling is placed at the site immediately, an Inlay is similar to a puzzle piece, in that after the tooth is “prepped” (the diseased part is removed) an impression is taken and then sent off to a lab then makes the inlay to fit into your tooth. The Inlay is then cemented into the tooth, similar to how a crown would be cemented. An Onlay is similar in that it too is made to fit like a puzzle piece on your tooth, however, it typically covers more surface area than an Inlay does.
